Bio
Afshin Chizari is a time-based visual artist whose practice is deeply rooted in slowness, craft, and intentional process. Born in Tehran and now based in Berlin, Afshin works across multiple tactile and historically rich mediums— printmaking, painting and Drawing , analog photography, durational sculpture— all of which demand time, patience, and material sensitivity. Their work resists quick consumption; instead, it invites viewers to dwell, to look again, to experience time differently. Whether it’s a drawing spanning five meters or a sculpture that slowly melts over hours, Afshin creates conditions that disrupt the pace of contemporary viewing habits. Alongside their studio practice, Afshin is an active organizer and collaborator, nurturing space for conversation, exchange, and publishing. They are the founder of Nashr, a Berlin-based publication platform dedicated to interactive, limited-edition printed matter shaped through dialogue and shared authorship. Their engagement with the Berlin art scene includes exhibitions, residencies, and events at spaces like SomoS Gallery, while also maintaining strong ties to the Tehran art community. Afshin’s work has appeared in festivals (such as Tanzpol, TCS, 48 Stunden Neukölln,NAWA), artist book fairs (Miss Read, KKHB), and numerous exhibitions internationally. Their approach is both rigorous and relational—bridging material process, conceptual depth, and a quiet yet powerful commitment to care, intimacy, and resistance through art.
